Cuban Day Parade in Elizabeth NJ

The Cuban Day Parade in Elizabeth, New Jersey is held annually in May to celebrate Cuban cultural heritage. This event is a popular weekend outing for families as a kickoff to the many cultural parades and festivals held in Elizabeth each summer.

The parade features a variety of aspects of Cuban and Cuban-American culture. Organizations with Cuban-American membership decorate and ride on colorful parade floats, in cars and trucks, or even on horseback. Since their introduction by the Spanish in the early 16th century, horses have been an important part of Cuban life. Come to the Cuban Day Parade to see the horses and hear their clip-clopping horseshoes and hooves as they head up Elizabeth Avenue!

The Cuban Day Parade route begins at Union Square at Elizabeth Avenue and High Street and travels northwest on Elizabeth Avenue nearly a mile and turns right onto Winfield Scott Plaza, ending at City Hall, where the Cuban flag will be flying.**

**The Cuban flag-raising ceremony is held the week of the parade. The flag-raising ceremony for 2019 was hosted by the City of Elizabeth and the Elizabeth Cubanos Lions Club and took place on Monday, May 20 at 6 p.m.
